District Governor Lim Kok Beng

Lim Kok Beng (KB) is a chartered Accountant in private practice with the firm of ong Boon Bah & co. He joined the rotary club of Gombak in 1992, having been introduced by iPDG Leslie Sallehuddin. in 2006 he transferred to the rotary club of Pudu, being introduced there by PDG Dr Paul Lee.

He was born and grew up in Penang. He attended Wellesley Primary School, Hutchings School and Westlands School and the Penang Free School for his secondary education, spending six happy years active in scouting and sports, especially athletics, and gymnastics. He was a prefect and a Pengakap Diraja.

He read law at the University of London King’s college and graduated with an LL.B.(Hons) in 1968. He then trained as a chartered Accountant qualifying in 1971 as an AcA of the institute of chartered Accountants in england & Wales. He has had working experience in London, Singapore, US and Malaysia working in merchant banking, IT and in the corporate sector. He started private practice in1987 as a partner in his present firm.

He is a fellow of the institute of chartered Accountants in england and Wales (icAeW), Malaysian institute of certified Public Accountants (MicPA) and of the Malaysian institute of Accountants (MiA). He was a council member of the MicPA for 25 years (1982-2006) and still serves in its examinations review board. He also participated in forming the KL city group of the icAeW. He was also a past examinations review board of the Malaysian Association of the institute of Administrators and Secretaries (MAicSA). He is also an independent director of Mulpha Land Bhd (and chairman of the Audit committee).

His other community and social interests have included memberships of Malaysian Nature Society (past treasurer and Selangor Branch chair), national treasurer (1995-2005), and Vice President (2); royal Selangor Flying club (Treasurer from 1995-2007) (also holds a PPL).

He has a daughter and son in the UK (with two granddaughters).

He served as President of rc Gombak in ry2001/2002, as GSe team Leader (ry2003/2004 to D3260 india), District environment Protection chair (ry2002/2003), ryLA chair (ry2004/2005), Assistant Governor (ry2005/2006), District erey chair (ry2006/2007), District General Secretary 2 (ry2007/2008) and was elected as DG for ry 2010/2011 in ry2007/2008.

He is a Major Donor+ of the rotary Foundation, and a Jamil rais Fellow. He holds the Four Avenues of Service Award, and the District rotary Foundation Award.
